Team SAAD

ANIMO SAAD!

Get to know Marvin’s team!

We are equally proud to have Animo-Saad Basketball Team on our roster of satisfied Ka-BOTAK!

From your BOTAK family, cheers to you on your endeavors in Saudi Arabia! Your continued appreciation is the best indication of our humble success.

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, specifically located at the Saad Specialist Hospital in Al-Khobar, there exists one team that stands out in the United Filipinos Basketball Federation.

Animo-Saad Basketball Team was organized in mid-2003 by someone who plays basketball as a passion, Marvin Vibar.

If you’re wondering why it was named Animo, it’s because the Team is a big fan of the DLSU Green Archers --- from Animo La Salle to Animo Saad!

All players are employed by the Saad Group of Companies consisting of diverse group of corporations.  The biggest investment of which is the Saad Specialist Hospital, which started its operation in 2001 with a full array of medical services, a tertiary level healthcare that caters to the Eastern region of the Kingdom and the neighboring countries of the Gulf Cooperative Council. Here we once again prove that Filipinos are world-class professionals and sportsmen, globally competitive not just in the work place but as well as in their sporting endeavors.

In just a span of three years, Animo-Saad has proven their mettle in the basketball hard court. Their presence has been admired in the SAAD Basketball League 2006, United Filipino Basketball Federation (UFBF) 2005 and 2006, and International Philippine School Basketball League (IBL) 2005. The team grabbed the First Place in IBL 2005, was heralded as the Most Organized Team in the 2005 and was also recognized as the head-turners in the same league by grabbing the Best in Uniform Award! (Of course, as backed-up by BOTAK).

They extend their warmest greetings to fellow Pinoys, all around the Philippines, all-around the world. Also they have this message to impart:

“Play hard, perfect practice makes perfect!  Remember, effort is not an effort unless it hurts!”

68-64 vs Cote Protec

  • Down by 8 points in the final quarter, we put full court pressure on the opponent, managing 3 consecutive stops, a change of points afterwards, then came the blow of Vibar fouling out of the game.
  • Dela Peña took over the game by making a decisive move to switch positions from 4 to 2 applying tight defense and managing to grab 2 steals that sent the game to a tie with just seconds remaining.
  • Castillo put a tight full court press to the opponents point guard, with the help of Catapang, but that sent the player at the foul line, splitting the shots.
  • 63-64 Cote Protec ahead by a point --- after the missed free throws, De la Peña sprinted with the ball making an and1 play sending the team ahead by 2 points.
  • Vibar called for a time-out, the instruction of which was to apply tight defense without any useless foul.
  • After the time out, the team managed to steal the ball with 16 secs left making the last play and sending the team to the Semis
